1. Too Much Information – Yes, you want to keep your posts reasonably short, but we don’t need personal details (TMI) mixed in with your professional business page.
2. No hashtags – They work better on some platforms more than others. Hashtags (#) on certain keywords in your posts can help you get more hits from searches. #hashtagitup
3. The hard sell – Trying too hard to pitch your products or services doesn’t work well with the informality of social media, where a more subtle approach works best.
Example: Our new Grass Hog Super 500 weed trimmer features a super fast motor that cuts everything down to size in seconds. Only $49.99 with free shipping. Guaranteed!
Revised: It slices! It dices! See just how fast the Grass Hog Super 500 trims weeds to save you time on yard work in this 30-second video.
4. Spelling or grammar errors – A Grammarly study showed that people can equate proper English usage with a company’s overall attention to detail. This was especially true on the more formal LinkedIn.
5. Trying to be hip – The study also concluded that companies that use “text slang” often failed to impress their audiences.
Example: R U ready for fun in the sun? Check out our new line of coolers and barbecue grills that will help u party hearty this summer! LOL!
